About krikristudio.com
After spending a year in Sweden, studying weaving, I took a ceramics class at the University of Washington because it fit a time slot that I had available. In the end, I earned a degree in Ceramic Sculpture, vowing never to make a pot! Later, when there came a request from Barneys New York to produce some tableware for their Chelsea Passage department, I agreed, thinking that this might last a season or two. That was 1991! My first line of dishes, Kri Kri, is quite ornate and colorful. It was inspired by my time in Montreal and the ubiquitous wrought-iron work in that city. Today, curlycue designs and figures dance and wind over myriad bowls, cups and serving pieces in wide range of colors. And Kri Kri continues to expand! Additionally, I really wanted to produce something that was simple and modern but not industrial or mass produced. VIT is the result. The name comes from the Swedish word for white. White slip is used to trail the lines that embelish VIT. This collection is comprised of 5 pieces, available in 5 colors. Perhaps the clean lines and fresh colors are an influence of my time in Scandinavia! A big part of my life is being married to professional kayaker instuctor/designer, Nigel Foster. I frequently accompany him on his travels and assist with teaching around the globe. We always take my ceramics with us, whether it is to the uninhabited coast of Labrador, down the Grand Canyon, to Sweden or New Zealand. And, one would be hard pressed to meet Nigel on the road without his trusty espresso kit, complete with Kri Kri cups! I am working hard to combine all the things I love into one life!
